The Third Sculpture Studio of the Athens School of Fine Arts is one of the School’s core academic laboratories dedicated to contemporary sculpture, interdisciplinary artistic research, and the evolving relationship between material practices, digital technologies, and hybrid forms of creation. Established under ΦΕΚ Τεύχος Β’ 5493/07.12.2018, the Laboratory operates under the direction of Associate Professor Ioannis Melanitis, with teaching staff Aikaterini Athanasiou, Loukas Loukidis, and Dimitra Panourgia.

The Laboratory is recognized for its experimental orientation, bridging traditional sculptural education with emerging media, artificial intelligence, biological arts, immersive environments, and posthumanist approaches. Through an expanded curriculum delivered across ten semesters, the Laboratory guides students from foundational principles of sculpture to advanced conceptual and technical synthesis, culminating in fully developed diploma projects.

The Laboratory is part of the Sculpture Sector of the Athens School of Fine Arts—Greece’s leading national institution for higher arts education. The Laboratory combines historical foundations, advanced technological literacy, and conceptual rigor, making it a vital site for innovation within contemporary sculpture and its intersections with science, architecture, ecology, and new media.
