The research characteristics of the lab co-exist in a theoretical and applied level through the dialectic combination of the two in the repetitive, formative or experimental process of creation. Consequently, substantial weight is given to the development of the methods of audiovisual research with an emphasis on the collection and analysis of audiovisual data and their semantic contribution to the space as a structure and to time as a form, beyond the originality of the results.
Within the framework of outward orientation and development of its research horizons, the Interactive Arts Research Lab is open to collaboration in Postgraduate and Postdoctoral studies with universities in Greece and abroad in scientific topics, which for example include: Animation & Videogames, Interactive Education and Entertainment Systems, Installation and Audiovisual media, Artistic Creation with the use of multimedia and Teaching of Audiovisual Arts.
Since the Interactive Arts Research Lab belongs to a university department that is unique in Greece as to its field of study and is located at a key geographical point, it can serve as a tool for improving the quality, enhancing mobility and ensuring suitability for the labour markets by developing more opportunities for students who have the necessary knowledge for conducting research.
The participation in research and development projects in Greece and abroad, which are directly related to the production of audiovisual and interactive content in the broader sections of culture, education and entertainment - can serve as a starting point for motivating and funding the lab, especially through strategical collaborations with public and private bodies.
