Environmental Responsibility


The Interactive Arts Laboratory, as an integral unit of the Ionian University, aligns its sustainability actions with the University’s institutional environmental policy and the work of the Environmental Activities Committee (Senate Decision 07-11-2024, ΠΡΥΤ/4732).

Purpose
To reduce the Laboratory’s environmental impact through responsible mobility, carbon awareness, and zero-waste practices, while maintaining accessibility, inclusion, and research excellence.

Key Policy Commitments

1. Responsible Mobility
    • Prioritisation of destinations with existing high-frequency transport infrastructure.
    • Preference for:
        ◦ direct flights
        ◦ economy class
        ◦ lower-emission routes when flying is unavoidable.
    • Active encouragement of:
        ◦ ferry and train travel for domestic mobility.
    • Redesign of activities to support:
        ◦ fewer trips
        ◦ longer stays
        ◦ slow mobility models.
          
2. Carbon Accountability
    • Introduction of carbon tracking for all laboratory-funded travel.
    • Annual mobility impact review.
    • Development of carbon budgets per project.
      
3. Zero-Waste Practices
    • Adoption of:
        ◦ recycling systems
        ◦ digital documentation
        ◦ reusable materials.
    • Avoidance of:
        ◦ single-use plastics
        ◦ unnecessary shipping of artworks.
    • Promotion of:

4. Sustainable Residencies
Residency calls will include:
    • low-carbon travel guidance
    • encouragement to pack minimally
    • material sustainability recommendations.
