The Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival (ICONA) is an international celebration of animated film organized by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University. Since its launch in 2019, the festival has showcased outstanding animation from around the world, with a particular focus on the short film format, aiming to preserve and expand the cultural heritage of animated cinema. ICONA fosters creative exchange by encouraging the production of new works, facilitating dialogue among filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences, and laying the groundwork for potential international co-productions. Supported by ASIFA Hellas, the festival has evolved into a dynamic hybrid platform—combining online and in-person elements—that reflects global animation excellence and builds community between creators and the public.
