Website: http://animasyros.grPLATFORMΑ-Urban Culture Co was established in 2004 in Athens, as a non for profit company aiming at the organisation of cultural events and the promotion of digital audiovisual culture.
The impetus for the founding of the company had already been given since 2003 when a group of people with love for cinema, envisioned an original artistic event open to all genres and young independent filmmakers, who used the new digital media, as a means of artistic expression. Thus, the International Film Festival Platforma Video was created as the first independent digital film festival in Athens.
After its establishment, the Company PLATFORMA- Urban Culture undertook the organization and production from 2004 to 2009 of the International Digital Film Festival Platforma Video. Dedicated to its original vision and scope the company succesfully organised all the above editions in Athens and managed through networking actions with relevant bodies, educational institutions and professionals from Greece and abroad to develop and establish itself among other independent cinema festivals in Europe.
PLATFORMA- Urban Culture Co successfully organized six International Festival, four have of which were also co-financed projects by the MEDIA Programme of the European Commission and in particular the Film Festivals organised from 2006 to 2009. In addition to the above, PLATFORMA- Urban Culture co has successfully managed two separate programs co-financed by the YOUTH program of the European Commission in 2005 and 2007, which involved the promotion of contemporary digital cinema through networking activities with related entities from Europe (Youthicons-2005) and informal audiovisual education (EN Kinisei 2007). From 2008 until today, the Company organizes annually in Hermoupolis-Syros, in collaboration with the Municipality of Syros Hermoupolis and Region of South Aegean the International Animation Festival + Agora animasyros, aiming at the artistic decentralization and the creation of an environment of encouragement and inclusivity for the inhabitants of the periphery of Greece. The Festival takes place in various locations of the island and namely at the Apollon Theater, the Municipal Cinema of Syros, at the Cultural Center and the Miaoulis Square. Animasyros includes apart from screenings a wide range of audiovisual training activities in the field of animation for children and adults, as well as other networking industry actions (Agora, Meet the Directors etc). The past two editions of the festival in 2014-2015 were co-financed projects of the programme Creative Europe- MEDIA of the European Commission.
During these eight editions of the Festival, more than 1700 animations from around the world were created, while the festival hosted more than 500 artists, including representatives from internationally acclaimed animation studio from the US and Europe, such as from Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, LAIKA, Folimage etc., tributes to internationally renowned animation festivals such as Annecy of France, Anima Brussels, ANIMA MUNDI from Brazil, Cinanima from Portugal etc. Furthermore, in the context of the educational activities of the festival, 24 original educational films animation, were created while the festival has welcomed almost 20,000 people in all its editions. Finally, PLATFORMA in the course of its activities organises satellite events for the promotion of film animation in Greece throughout the year.
The production team of the Festival includes 50 people working mainly on a voluntary basis for the successful completion of the Company's purpose.
