Fotis Raftopoulos is a sculptor and researcher whose work brings together traditional plastic arts and contemporary digital technologies. His practice centers on digital sculpture and the ways in which new media transform form, materiality, and spatial experience. In 2016, he contributed to the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) project “Cultural Events for El Greco as an Expression of Artistic Creation” as a member of the Audiovisual and Educational Applications Production Team of the MA program “Digital Arts Forms.” Earlier, in 2011, he collaborated on the project “Artistic Interventions in Public Space: Painting on the Blind Walls of Athens,” implemented by ASFA and the Ministry of Environment as part of the “Athens–Attica 2014” program. His applied artistic work includes collaborations with noted artists Manolis Baboussis and Lydia Dambassina, particularly the 3D design of a sculptural maquette for the proposed Holocaust Memorial in Athens. He has also undertaken the 3D modeling of the sculptural decoration of the Church of Hagia Sophia, integrating digital documentation techniques with an understanding of historical craftsmanship. Earlier work includes contributions to the project “Documentation, Digitisation and Promotion of the ASFA Gallery” (2005), the research initiative “Light | Image | Reality – The Aegina Academy” (2003), and the pioneering GUNET pilot program “Eurydice” (1998), which introduced digital tools in visual arts education. He lives and works between Athens and Corfu.
