Dalila Honorato, Professor at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University and Director of InArts Lab, is participating from August 5 to September 4, 2024 at the Cultivamos Cultura artist residency to conclude her research-based piece Project Parietaria.
Inspired by the Parietaria plant—also known as pellitory and a close relative of the nettle—this project explores the paradox of a botanical organism that is both medicinal and allergenic. As someone personally allergic to it, Honorato engages in a three-phase investigation that aims to build an intimate relationship with the allergenic agent. Project Parietaria proposes a safe yet embodied approach to getting to know the plant’s body, examining its structure, and experimenting with the transformation of its texture.
To Honorato, the residency taking place in Sao Luis- - Odemira in Portugal, provides space and time to develop the work, focusing on embodied artistic practice and environmental engagement through creative co-existence with a biological adversary.
