Semiotics of the Uncanny: Mutants, clones and zombies (almost all my phobias in 30 minutes)

by InArts.Lab member Dalila Honorato (Ionian University)
September 19th, 2017 (time 14:30) room 3.13 Complexo Pedagógico de Gambelas, University of Algarve
Free entrance.

Description:
Themes such as the transformation of body shape, the exact reproduction such as mirror or shadow type, and decadence either physical or psychological that may take to the edge of what is ethically considered human and non-human have been explored by literary and audiovisual narrative quite intensely in the last few years. This presentation aims to look at the possible reasons behind this dual pair fascination-repulse that has populated the imaginary of the 21st century through diverse media, at the same time it also intends to establish a connection with the technological and scientific developments that might eventually support the logic of the biopunk movement.

About the speaker:
A Portuguese living currently in Greece, Dalila Honorato has a PhD in Communication and Media Theory and is specialized in Aesthetics and Visual Semiotics. More recently her research activity is focused on thematics in the area of art & science and the result of this is the creation of the interdisciplinary conference "Taboo-Transgression-Transcendence in Art & Science" and the development of the programme for the "Corfu Summer School in Hybrid Arts", both in their second edition.
