Adam Zaretsky, an artist and professor in Media Arts at Marist College (NY, USA), also conducts labs where he integrates fields such as Ecology, Biotechnology, Performance and Gastronomy. He has performed courses in experimental Bioart, or VivoArts, at universities of the USA, Australia and the Nederthands. He has also created a public educational institute, VASTAL (The Vivoarts School for Transgenic Aesthetics Ltd). His artwork is based on the legal, ethical, social and libidinal consequences of biotechnology materials and methods and it is focused on transgenic organisms. A graduate in Art Studio at the University of California at Davis (1995), with an MFA in Art and Technology at the Art Institute of Chicago (1999), Adam Zaretsky received his PhD at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2012) and the text of his thesis is to be released soon. A distinguishable representative of Bioart and the DIY bio movement (biohacking), Adam Zaretsky integrates existential philosophy with self-sarcasm of art itself, embodying in a unique way the transgression between scientific and artistic creations.
